Emergency Notice

MT WILSON/MT IRVINE RURAL FIRE BRIGADE

FOR CANYONERS - Wednesday 8 January 2020

The canyons will be closed for some time. There are lots of dangerous trees and the area around Wollangambe 1 & 2 was still burning last week. With the fires still burning all Parks crews are busy with firefighting and it will be some time before they even look at making walking tracks safe. Please stay out of fire affected areas.

ROAD TO RECOVERY UPDATE – Tuesday 7th January 2020

A Recovery Work List has been sent to Blue Mountains City Council Recovery Coordinator listing the tasks which need work in the Mt Wilson and Mt Irvine villages and surrounds.

The power station at Cathedral Reserve, Mt Wilson has now closed and is bound for the south coast, this means that we are back on the power grid, a great effort from Endeavour Energy.

Soil Conservation Contractors will be doing assessments of the fire trails over the next few days, looking at dangerous trees, drainage and erosion control.

WIRES have been out setting up some feeding stations around Mt Wilson and Farrer Road, for the local wildlife.

The Brigade's Cat 1 has gone into Katoomba for repairs.

Plus, the best bit, we are getting some wet misty conditions, hopefully we get some real rain with it.

BUSHFIRE RECOVERY APPEAL

The twin villages of Mount Wilson and Mount Irvine in the Blue Mountains have suffered devastating damage to one of the most beautiful garden and bushland areas in Australia. In addition,

Contributions to THE MOUNT WILSON AND MOUNT IRVINE BUSHFIRE RECOVERY APPEAL will help the communities’ Brigade rebuild, improve and recover from the losses of the terrible bushfire.

In addition, the nearby small village of Bell near Mount Wilson also suffered terrible damage with five homes lost. Contributions to Bell Rural Fire Brigade will help the Bell community rebuild.

All the work to minimse damage can be achieved more easily with better local facilities and more major and minor equipment.

Donations to both the Mt Wilson/Mt Irvine Brigade and the Bell Brigade can assit recovery and preparation for future emergencies.
